Yesterday (amateur cover with my own silly lyrics)

I mess with guitar as a hobby sometimes. I never really dabbed into writing lyrics, but this is what I suddenly came up with in September 2025:

The backstory for the lyrics is kinda mysterious. In case you're interested, here we go.

As you might have learned from the homepage, I love nature. And I mean it: if I'm not outdoors when the weather is good, I just get sad.

Since I work remotely, in summer I often take my laptop to the seaside: folding chair, small table, and a few hours of work by the water.

It's not a crowded beach, more like a secluded one which you can't even drive your car to (there's just a thin path), but of course there are some people around.

And there is one woman whom I saw almost every day: she'd just pass from one side of the beach to the other, almost every day. I liked her, but I also saw her with a man a couple times, so I never tried anything.

We did engage in short conversations which she initiated a couple times, something about laptops and stuff; but I still kept to myself.

But one day, she brought me a sand shell. I mean she just came up, smiled, put the shell on my table, and literally ran off. I only said “Thanks!”, and, well, stayed in my spot, very puzzled. Bringing shells is not what strangers normally do to each other, is it? So since I liked her anyway, and was single, I figured maybe I should try to talk.

The next day I caught up with her as she passed by, and tried to talk. But she's very elusive! I mean she smiles and laughs, and we exchanged names, but she just won't stay. She runs away from me.

We talked briefly a few more times, and I enjoyed her company, and she actually brought me some other gifts (a feather, and a handful of delicious figs), but I never managed to keep her for a conversation longer than half a minute. Every day, the same story repeats: I stand in my place, she appears at one side, passes me by with a slight smile and greet, and disappears on the other side. She just won't stay.

I'm not gonna go into all the details, and into what happened next, but that's all you need to know as a backstory for this silly little song. It is the result of my bewilderment and genuine curiosity, mixed with a spark of romantic feeling towards her. :)

Yesterday
She brought a sand shell and then ran away
Leaving me to wonder what to say
Oh I just smiled and watched her play

On the shore
A little gift might open up a door
Like these moments I've been longing for
Oh I would like to know her more

Why she always runs
I don't know she wouldn't say
I'm here standing still
While she comes and drifts away

Yesterday
